Downtown Greenville Farmers' Market

The downtown Greenville Farmers’ Market has been a Darke County summer staple since 1998. This year promises to be another great year for fresh produce (as it is ready for harvest), baked goods and handmade crafts from local vendors. Vendors will offer various goods ranging from embroidered crafts, vintage bears/dolls and handmade jewelry to produce, baked goods, herbs and fresh flowers. Event attendees can expect to see a varied lineup of vendors and goods each week. Vendor applications are accepted throughout the season. Art at the Mill Reception & Exhibit w/ Mike Major

Mike Major has created monumental bronze sculptures that can be seen across the country as well as playful paintings and evocative landscapes inspired by scenes near his home; the Urbana artist will bring his work to historic Bear's Mill during the month of October. The exhibit will open on Friday, September 26 with a reception featuring hors d'oeuvres and drinks from 6 pm to 9 pm; the artist will speak briefly about his work, methods and inspiration at 7 pm. This exhibit continues through Sunday, October 26.

Greenville Art Guild's 39th Annual Art Show and Sale

The Greenville Art Guild invites all area amateur, professional or student artists (age 14-22) to its 39th annual art show, September 27 through October 1. Invitees are welcome to exhibit their original artwork in the following categories: drawing media, (graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, pen and ink), oil, acrylics (executed in the manner of oils), pastel, water media (transparent watercolor and aquatic medium), mixed media, photography, miniatures (4"x6" or smaller not including frame) and three dimensional (pottery, sculpture, jewelry, textiles, stained glass and art in the round or relief format). Entries must be postmarked by Friday, September 12 and each artist is limited to three entries. Art may be delivered to the nature center on September 24, 2-6 p.m. The Guild is excited to announce that Trish McKinney, an accomplished artist from New Carlisle, will be the 2014 judge. She currently has her studio at the Hotel Gallery in Tipp City. The awards presentation and reception will be September 26 at 7 p.m. and the show will open to the public beginning with Prairie Days on September 27 and ending on October 1. All artwork must be picked up between 5-7 p.m. on October 1. Shine On Corynna Glo-Ball Tournament

33rd Annual Harvest of Quilts

DCCA Artists Series presents JOSHUA CARSWELL

Darke County Center for the Arts will present singer Joshua Carswell at Henry St. Clair Memorial Hall in Greenville on Saturday, October 11; the show begins at 8 p.m. Just 25 years old, Carswell has already performed at Carnegie Hall and released his first solo album featuring great American standards ranging from “I Only Have Eyes for You” to Hank Williams' plaintive “I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry.” Joshua Carswell, who has been singing since he was a three-year-old, loves multiple musical styles and genres, and has the extraordinary skill to perform and interpret almost any song in a manner that immediately captures his audience and leaves them wanting more. The Great Pumpkin Hunt

Candlelight Dinners on the Prairie

Join the Darke County Park District at the table for a meal and experience you won't soon forget. The pioneers will open their home as to prepare a feast in the 18th century style and tradition. This fundraising evening will offer educational glimpses of pioneer skills and traditions, a meal cooked over the hearth fire and served family style, seating in the Log House loft and after-dinner entertainment from a wandering story-teller and musician. All proceeds will be put towards the care of the Log House and cultural programming funds. Age 21 and up, please. Pre-registration required. Cost is $50/person or $90/couple. Fees due October 13.
