Versailles Poultry Days

The town of Versailles will be taken over by thousands of visitors for it's annual chicken festival. Enjoy the arts & crafts show, Peddler's Market, flower show, baking contests, egg decorating contests and displays, talent show, "Little Miss Chick" contest, free live entertainment, kiddie rides, children's petting zoo, Grand Parade, antique & classic car parade, 5K Heritage Run, bike tour, golf scramble, softball and ultimate disk tournaments. Sunday night at dusk there will be a fireworks display. Don't forget about the food! Poultry Days is well known for its barbecue chicken, ice cream parlor and beer.

Greenville Farm Power of the Past

The Gathering at Garst

Experience this exceptional event held outside on the beautiful grounds of Garst Museum in Greenville, Ohio.  Featuring juried artists, antique dealers, garden exhibits, skilled historical craftsmen, along with musical performances and unique food vendors.  A living history encampment with participants from the French and Indian War through the Civil War is staged nearby.  The sound of cannons and muzzleloaders will ring out along with the clip clop of trotting horses as carriage rides are offered both days on the tree lined street bordering the Garst grounds.  Visit Garst Museum's comprehensive collection of Annie Oakley memorabilia, local Native American Indian artifacts, and the history of The Treaty of Greene Ville.

Prairie Days

Apple butter cooking over the fire; pioneers in and around the Log House; vendors displaying their wares; tall-tales being spun; crafts to make... must be Prairie Days! This is THE event for Darke County Parks. Each year, this Free Family Event brings in 4,000 people to Shawnee Prairie Preserve.

Held annually the last full weekend of September, this event focuses on the prairie way of life in and around 1780-1810 and will feature many crafts, games and trades of the time period. Many crafts are free for children and with a select few requesting a small donation. Bring your family to the Prairie and step back in time!

Hometown Holiday Horse Parade

Downtown Greenville plays host to the annual Hometown Holiday Horse Parade featuring lighted, horse-drawn carriages. Bring the entire family to enjoy this event and see Santa Claus come to town! The parade will include carolers, bands, bell choirs and lighted carriages pulled by horses through the streets of Historic Downtown Greenville at 7:00 pm. A delightful holiday evening in the country, free to the public. Enjoy shopping in the Mill Store & Gallery and then bundle up for a gorgeous nighttime walk along the banks of Greenville Creek, lit by stunning luminaries.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

This holiday season, join Darke County Parks for an evening stroll through the Winter Wonderland at Shawnee Prairie Preserve! There will be over 350 luminaries lighting the way along the wooded trails, allowing for a peaceful winter’s night in nature. As families hike along the illuminated trail toward the log house and blacksmith shop, they can enjoy crisp air, the bright stars, and perhaps the light crunch of snow on this early December evening. In the log house, the fire will be warm with holiday snacks and drinks to sample. Enjoy pioneer music of Christmas’ past while relaxing in the comforts of the 18th century. Holiday crafts for all ages will be available upstairs in the log house and in the Nature Center to fuel the memories of this staff-favorite event. The Nature Center and Gift Shop will be open throughout the event, offering a chance to discover a selection of unique gifts or that perfect holiday stocking stuffer! Don’t forget to bring a votive candle (or two) as a donation for next year’s path! Walkin’ in a Winter Wonderland is the perfect event for the whole family to celebrate the winter season. Start a family tradition this year.
